Category IP Address

Postby dlattanzi@furuno.com on Mon Dec 07, 2009 3:45 pm

Is there a way to determine what type of sites are associated with the category IP Address?

The IP Address category is used to capture and segregate the IP addresses of Web sites that the product was
unable to associate with any of the ‘standard’ categories. If we know the IP address domain name, we do categorize the site in our control list under the appropriate category. We typically see three types of IP addresses. They can be:

1. Internal (and partner) Web pages
2. Innocent links on Web sites
3. Possible malware or virus servers.

Below is a link to a document written by Wavecrest that explains in more detail what the IP Address category is and what steps you can take to help identify IP addresses.

The IP Address category was created to be a ‘red flag’. Its purpose is to alert you that further action may be needed to resolve problems or to simply give you a more complete and comprehensive picture of all Web activity.
